The 17th National Academic Conference On Environmental Mechanics Was Successfully Held

On December 24, 2022, the 17th National Academic Conference on Environmental Mechanics was successfully held in the form of online webinar. This is the second time that Lanzhou University has organized the National Academic Conference on Environmental Mechanics after the National Conference on Environmental Mechanics in 2010. The conference is hosted by Environmental Mechanics Committee of Chinese Society for Mechanics. It is hosted by Key Laboratory of Disaster and Environmental Mechanics in Western China of Ministry of Education, Lanzhou University and Research Center for Turbulent Particles, Lanzhou University. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Prof. Liu Hua, Director of Environmental Mechanics Committee of Chinese Society of Mechanics and Director of Key Laboratory of Hydrodynamics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Ministry of Education; Prof. Meng Qingguo, Deputy Director of Department of Mathematics and Physics, National Natural Science Foundation of China; Professor Huang Ning, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of Lanzhou University and Director of the Key Laboratory of Disaster and Environmental Mechanics of the Ministry of Education in Western China, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Director Liu Hua briefly introduced the organization of the conference and the leaders and guests attending the conference. Dean Huang Ning, on behalf of Lanzhou University, welcomed all the expert leaders and representatives attending the conference and expressed his gratitude to all the leading experts for their support to Lanzhou University and the discipline of environmental mechanics. Researcher Meng Qingguo pointed out that it is not easy to hold this conference under the epidemic environment conditions, and environmental disasters have become a common challenge facing all mankind. Although environmental issues involve many disciplines, mechanics is an indispensable part of them, and it is a discipline that plays a leading role in mechanism understanding and prevention. Director Meng stressed the determination of strengthening environmental mechanics research to serve the national strategy, consolidating the depth of environmental mechanics research and expanding the breadth of environmental mechanics research. This meeting has set up the conference report session, Yang Xiaolei from the Institute of Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Ji Shunying from Dalian University of Technology, Professor Yin Hailong from Tongji University and Professor Wang Guohua from Lanzhou University were invited to make presentations on the Research Progress of offshore wind energy, Numerical Ice Pools for Polar Ships and ocean Engineering Structures, Mathematical Methods and mathematical Models for Urban Smart Water, and Wind Sand Experiments and Observations on particle Turbulence "Four guest conference presentations. In addition, the conference was set up four sub-sessions. 51 online reports were given by famous experts, outstanding young scholars and graduate students from more than 20 research institutions in the field of environmental mechanics, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Institute of Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Lanzhou University, China Agricultural University, Dalian University of Technology and Hohai University. More than 200 graduate students and young scholars participated in the online discussion. The participating experts focused on basic theories, test measurement, field observation, calculation methods, software development and engineering application research in the fields of atmospheric environment, water environment, rock and soil geology, natural ecology, etc., summarized and exchanged the latest research progress, discussed the development trend of environmental mechanics, and promoted the interdisciplinary and integration of environmental mechanics.
