Turbulent dispersed multiphase flows are common in natural environment and industry applications with Reynolds number spanning 6~7 orders of magnitude. Examples of various physics include droplet and pollutant dispersion, sand/dust storm, sediment transport in water bodies, fluidized beds, bubbly flows. Owing to the wide range of length- and time scales, the characteristics and dynamics of the carrier phase turbulence are not fully understood up to now. When particles are suspended into and interact with turbulence, the overall flow becomes extremely complex and hard to predict. Therefore this topic has garnered continual attention since the early 1980s.
This symposium aims to bring together specialist in the field of turbulent dispersed multiphase flows including droplet and pollutant dispersion, sand/dust storms, sediment transport in water or air flows, fluidized beds, bubbly flows etc. Discussions between the experts of these fields enable the exchange of ideas about the recent advances in the characteristics of turbulent structure, the underlying mechanisms of particle-turbulence interaction, the numerical and experimental methods developed for turbulent multiphase flow, as well as the possible future trends.
