The 15th Graduate Academic Conference Of The School Of Civil Engineering And Mechanics Was Successfully Held

In order to motivate the graduate students to focus on the academic frontier, promote the mutual learning and communication between the graduate students of different disciplines and professional fields, and create a strong cultural atmosphere of academic innovation, the 15th Graduate Academic Annual Conference of the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of Lanzhou University opened in the afternoon of December 30 in Tencent conference. The meeting was presided over by Zhang Xingyi, Vice president of the school. Huang Ning, president of the school, delivered a speech. All graduate students attended the meeting.

The first session: President Huang Ning delivered the opening speech

President Huang summarized the achievements of the school in discipline construction and scientific research in the past year, and encouraged students not to be affected by changes in the external environment, but also to devote themselves to study at home. He proposed three expectations for postgraduates: open themselves up, try more, tap their maximum potential and seek infinite possibilities; Strengthen communication, look for different thinking and perspective, look for breakthrough opportunities; Attach importance to study, strengthen investment, and constantly improve scientific research results. I hope the students cherish the precious time, in the New Year, step by step, comprehensively improve the comprehensive quality, practice excellent skills, make great progress.

The second part of the teacher forum

1. Professor Yong Huadong -- Research experience based on the development of mechanics discipline

Professor Yong first introduced the basic information of the department of Mechanics, including its development history, faculty, research achievements, outstanding alumni, honors, etc., and proposed the basic quality of scientific research from the perspective of discipline development, including the importance of attaching importance to basic concepts and cultivating reverse thinking. He emphasized that if our basic concepts are not right or we don't have a deep grasp of the concepts, it is almost impossible to do anything right, and if a concept is wrong, it is difficult to change back. For doctoral students, we must have the ability of reverse thinking. If we follow others, what we can see can also be seen by others. If we have the ability of reverse thinking, what we can see is invisible to others. In the end, Professor Yong Huadong combined with the research on superconducting mechanics stressed that the topic must meet the major national needs and challenge the frontiers of world science. Only those difficult ones are more valuable and long-term ones.

2. Ren Junping, a young researcher -- Some experiences and reflections on study and scientific research

Ms. Ren Junping told about her experiences in the process of studying and shared her insights. Professor Ren stressed that continuous efforts and undistracted attention are still needed to achieve scientific research results. He cited some examples in his study. During the summer vacation of his sophomore year, he stayed in school to prepare for the competition and lived a painful asctic life. In order to go abroad, he practiced English hard and finally achieved his goal. From Xi 'an to Canada, from the United States to Japan, along the way, he gained a lot of insights. For example, don't complain about the environment. Think strong. Foreign experimental equipment is a little inferior to domestic, but can issue a lot of top journals mainly because of the profound academic accumulation of foreign researchers, novel scientific research ideas, fine experimental design, rigorous data analysis, in-depth theoretical discussion and beautiful paper writing, we should learn more in these aspects. Finally, Professor Ren Junping proposed the qualities that scientific researchers should have: full of enthusiasm; Interest; Have a clear goal; Stick to the truth; Hard work and perseverance; Tempered, cast success; Adhere to scientific research, without distractions; Sincere cooperation; In good health.

The third part is sharing experience of outstanding graduate students

1. Dr. Feng Yixin, winner of the National Doctoral Scholarship

Feng Yixin shared his method of combining theoretical derivation with numerical simulation, combining Fourier method with data-driven machine learning and other methods to explore and study the multi-scale model of composite materials and the feasible theoretical basis and solution of parallel computing method. At the same time, he also talked about how to balance his study and life, how he broke down a long-term goal into a short-term goal and made a plan, etc., which was of great benefit to everyone. 2. Dr. Man GUI 'an, winner of the National Doctoral Scholarship

Man GUI 'an shared her experience in scientific research life from multiple perspectives. First of all, he said that the biggest difference between graduate students and undergraduates is that graduate students need more autonomy. The study of graduate students is a process of active exploration and innovative research. Secondly, he shared the development process of his research project, which is mainly divided into three aspects: finding the research direction, determining the topic and specific research. In these processes, Man GUI 'an stressed that everyone should conduct sufficient literature research, communicate and discuss more with the tutor and classmates, and also participate in domestic and international academic conferences to broaden their horizons and thinking. As for the method of paper writing, he believes that writing and organizing ability need to be cultivated and exercised. He should timely summarize his research results and organize the existing results and research highlights. Man GUI 'an also shared his thoughts about his postgraduate studies. He believed that scientific research is a gradual process, which is boring but interesting. It requires everyone to active their thinking and be diligent and persistent at the same time. "A project without difficulties is certainly not a good problem," he said. "I hope you can face up to the difficulties encountered and be a happy graduate student while doing scientific research reasonably!" 3. Dr. Jia Quanquan, winner of the National Doctoral Scholarship

Jia Quanquan reported from two aspects: academic exchange and experience sharing. In terms of academic exchange, Jia Quanquan shared his previous research on the strength, hydration and microstructure of a traditional limey slurry used in the restoration of ground pillars. He systematically introduced his research process and results from the aspects of research background, research significance, mural structure, research status, test materials, test methods, physical and mechanical properties, hydration properties, hydration and carbonization processes, microscopic properties, conclusions and achievements, which made us more clear about the process of scientific research and opened our eyes. In the aspect of paper writing, Jia Quanquan explained the necessity of publishing high-level papers and the main problems that may exist in the writing of papers. Charts and graphs are the top priority. The first impression of reviewers is often the charts, which are neat and beautiful and can improve the rate of receiving manuscripts. I believe that with the all-round advice of Jia Quanquan, students' postgraduate career will be more and more smooth. 4. Zhang Houyuan, PhD candidate, shares electromagnetic analysis software Opera

Zhang Houyuan shared the electromagnetic analysis software Opera. Opera3D mainly includes electromagnetic field and temperature field analysis module, as well as calculation module. Then the 3D interface of the software is introduced and the calculation process and calculation results are derived. In the end, Zhang Houyuan concluded that software is only a tool in the numerical study of superconducting magnet mechanics and its multi-field behavior. What is more important is to understand and master the knowledge. Master's National Scholarship winner Zhao Xing

Zhao Xing shared some experiences in literature reading and paper writing. He suggested that students quickly understand the hot spots and gaps in the field through master and doctoral papers, then download the highly cited papers in the last five years and the latest literature in the last two years for extensive reading of their titles, graphs and abstracts, and finally select very important articles for intensive reading. Zhao Xing also shared some websites for searching papers and managing literature, proposed that paper writing logic should be rigorous, data should be solid, pictures should be beautiful, pictures are the facade, and color matching is the top priority, and shared some color use skills. Professor Zhang Xingyi spoke highly of and affirmed the teachers and students who made the presentation, and expressed his most sincere thanks to them for their careful preparation and selfless sharing. He took us back to the past year, and encouraged the students to strive to master the ability to seek opportunities in danger, to face difficulties bravely, and to find certainty in "uncertainty". At the same time, he hoped that the students could arrange their time reasonably, cherish their time, increase the communication with their mentors, and welcome the New Year in a full state after the adjustment of the holiday and the Spring Festival. At this point, the 15th Graduate Academic Conference of Lanzhou University Civil Engineering and Mechanics School came to an end.
