At the invitation of Lanzhou University, Professor Sikander Ajam Khan from National University of Science and Technology, Pakistan attended the 2019 international forum on higher education annual conference held at Lanzhou University from October 12-13, 2019. At the invitation of the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics and the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of Western Disaster and Environmental Mechanics, Professor Sikander visited the college on the afternoon of 13 October and gave an academic presentation.
The meeting was hosted by Professor Zhang Huyuan. The young teachers from the department of civil engineering Pakistan students and the leader of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office attended the meeting. Professor Sikander introduced the National University of Science and Technology, Pakistan and Art Design and Technology, our college young professor Zhang Qiangqiang, young researcher Liu Zhijun, associate professor Wang Huaping, associate professor Pan Chunlin, associate professor Wang Xingjun, associate professor Fan Xueping, lecturer Zhang Tongwei respectively introduced the main research directions.
After the meeting，Professor Sikander made an academic report titled “Architecture Competitions” and Professor Zhang Huyuan hosted the report. Taking the architectural design undertaken by the National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan as an example, Professor Sikander introduced the planning ideas of community housing, the design concept and design details of passive ventilated buildings. The design concept of community buildings for low-income groups in Pakistan has aroused high interest and heated discussion among teachers and students attending the conference, which is considered to be of reference value to China's efforts to stabilize housing prices, especially to control the cost of affordable housing. Professor Sikander said that the peoples of China and Pakistan have a deep traditional friendship. Chinese students are welcome to go to Pakistan for exchanges and studies and are willing to provide help within their ability. Professor Zhang Huyuan expressed his good wishes to explore cooperation and exchanges between the two departments at the inter-university level.
