Recently, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation framework agreement between Lanzhou University and the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Lanzhou University. Academician Li Jiangang, former Director of Institute of Plasma Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chief Scientist of National Fusion Energy Project, Chen Junling, Director of Science and Technology Department, Qin Jinggang, Deputy Director of Applied Superconducting Engineering Laboratory, Yan Chunhua, President of Lanzhou University, Xu Pengfei, Assistant to the President and Executive Director of Science and Technology Development Research Institute, and the relevant functional departments of the university as well as the main principals and academic leaders of College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics attended the signing ceremony. Academician Li Jiangang and Xu Pengfei signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement on behalf of both sides.
Academician Yan Chunhua said that the Institute of Plasma Physics has achieved very important research results in major national engineering research for a long time and is an example for Lanzhou University to learn from.
Academician Li Jiangang introduced the progress of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a major international cooperation project currently focused on by the Institute of Plasma Physics, China's plan to independently build a higher-performance fusion reactor, and the implementation of the "Key Science and Technology for Next Generation High-field Superconducting Magnets" Project B led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Meanwhile, he pointed out the importance of mechanical research in the development of these high-field large-space superconducting magnets.
After the signing ceremony, Academician Li Jiangang was invited to attend the 179th academic conference of "Lanzhou University Centennial Expert Forum", then he gave a wonderful academic report to our teachers and students on the topic of "Progress and Prospect of Magnetic Confinement Fusion in China". In the end, Academician Li Jiangang had an extensive communication with the present teachers and students, and gave his autograph as a memento at the request of some students. Professor Zhou Youhe presided over the colloquium.
