Lanzhou University, founded in 1909, is a prominent comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is recognized as one of the key institutions in the “985 Project” and the “211 Project”as well as a “Double First-Class” university.

The School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics was established in June 2005, focusing on mechanics and geological engineering with civil engineering as the main discipline. It strives to be a leading research-oriented engineering school with significant influence in China, incorporating applied basic research, engineering science research, engineering design, and engineering management.
Currently, there are 109 faculty and staff members in the school, including 33 professors, 25 associate professors, and 13 young researchers and postdoctoral fellows. There are 28 doctoral supervisors and 65 master's supervisors. 601 undergraduate students and 591 graduate students are currently enrolled. It offers three undergraduate programs in theoretical and applied mechanics, civil engineering, and geological engineering, along with master’s and doctoral programs in mechanics and civil engineering (including geological engineering). Additionally, it features two postdoctoral research stations in mechanics and geological resources and geological engineering and also enrolls professional degree graduate students in geological engineering and civil engineering through the authorized master's programs in resources and environmental engineering and civil and hydraulic engineering.
There are five teaching units currently, including the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science, the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Geological Engineering, the Engineering Experiment Center, and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Base,which has established six research institutes in solid mechanics, engineering mechanics, geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and disaster prevention and reduction engineering. The school independently hosts the Key Laboratory of Mechanics on Disaster and Environment in Western China, the Ministry of Education of China, and collaborates with other faculties to establish a Key Laboratory of Special Functional Materials and Structural Design (Class B) of the Ministry of Education as well as the National Research Center for the Protection of Ancient Murals and Earthen Sites with the Dunhuang Academy, and the Lanzhou Geophysical National Field Observation Station in partnership with the Gansu Earthquake Agency.

- Cuiying (Outstanding) Postdoctoral and General Postdoctoral Positions: Recent PhD graduates are encouraged to apply.
Benefits: Cuiying postdoctoral positions offer an annual pre-tax salary of 300,000 to 400,000 RMB. Candidates selected for the National "Postdoctoral Innovation Talents Support Program" and "Postdoctoral International Exchange Program" can be directly selected and recruited as “Cuiying Postdocs”. General postdoctoral positions offer an annual pre-tax salary of 162,000+ RMB. While on the station, all can apply for professional title qualifications, on-campus apartments, and assistance with household registration, medical care, and children's education.
- Young Researchers: Postdoctoral fellows in the station can apply for this pre-employment Professor position, which can transition to a formal staff position upon successful performance evaluations.
Benefits: An annual pre-tax salary of 360,000 RMB (including a 40,000 RMB housing subsidy), 1,000,000 RMB in research start-up funds, on-campus apartments, and assistance with residency, medical care, and children's education.
- Associate Professors: Postdoctoral fellows in the station are eligible to apply.
Benefits: Providing salary, insurance, and other benefits in accordance with national regulations, as well as performance-based wages from the university; 700,000 RMB in research start-up funds; A housing subsidy and settling-in allowance of RMB 400,000 are provided. On-campus apartment and assistance with residency, medical care, and children's education are also available.
