Wang Xudong, Outstanding Alumni of our College Won the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award of 2018

The 2018 award party of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was held in Beijing Diaoyutaiguo Hotel on Nov. 6 2018. Wang Xudong, an outstanding alumni of College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of Lanzhou University, current Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of Dunhuang Research Institute, and an adjunct professor and doctoral supervisor of the College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of Lanzhou University, won the “Science and Technology Innovation Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation”. This is another breakthrough after the academician Zheng Xiaojing of our College won the “Science and Technology Progress Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation” of 2014. At the same time, Yan Chunhua, the president of Lanzhou University, won the “Science and Technology Progress Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation” . Two out of the 56 winners were Lzuers.

Wang Xudong was admitted to the major of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of Lanzhou University as an undergraduate in 1986 and obtained a bachelor's degree in 1990. He was admitted to the Department of Geology of Lanzhou University in 1995 to work for a master's degree and was admitted to Lanzhou University in 1999 to study for a doctorate. In 2003, he obtained the doctor's degree in Engineering. Since he was engaged in the protection of murals and earthen sites in Dunhuang Research Institute in 1991, Wang Xudong has published more than 60 papers in various publications, co-published three monographs, won 10 national and provincial awards, and won the honorary titles of outstanding experts of the Ministry of Culture, national outstanding scientific and technological workers and outstanding experts of Gansu Province. He has obtained 4 technical patents, applied for 5 technical patents, and completed 5 national and industrial technical standards. As the person in charge of the project, he has presided over more than 30 survey designs and site constructions of the protection and reinforcement of murals and earthen ruins of key cultural relics under state protection, and undertaken more than 20 key research projects on the protection of cultural relics issued by the State Cultural Relics Bureau and the Ministry of Science and Technology. He is currently hosting or participating in 4 international cooperation projects with the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
